Here are the main disconnects. Right on the other side of the wall is the meter and there has to be a breaker/disconnect within 3 feet of the meter. I wanted to have two 200 amp panels, one in the front and one in the back, as a means to reduce the length of wiring runs, so we had to put these disconnects in place. The black wire is the very expensive 0000 copper (probably $1,500 worth!) that was so dangerous to work with. Eliz is not very happy about having these in the living room, but it is a little too late to change these things now.
Here is the panel in the rec room. Originally I had intended it to be on the other side of the room and wouldn't have had all those wires going across the door way, but I misscalculated how much wire I needed and we decided to save a few bucks (maybe) and shift it. So many wires going across the doorway!
You can't see it in this picture, but every wire was carefully labled as to its destination. I find it hard to believe myself but we have almost filled up the panel box with breakers and are certainly at capacity for the amperage if everything were to go on at once.
This is the front panel in the living room. Originally we were going to have doors at the front and rear of the kitchen (originally the living/dining room was to be my workshop), but decided to leave it open once I gave up on the workshop idea. That necessitated wires running over the surface of the attic deck (as can be seen in the upper right hand corner of the picture), but those wires will be covered with insulation later.
Here is a shot of the panel now that I have started putting the breakers in place. You can clearly see the lables on each wire that I used to keep track of what goes where. Even the front panel is more than 2/3 full with breakers and it is also nearly at capacity in amperage as well. It is fortunate that my original intention was to use it as a work shop and thus planned a 400 amp service or we might be in really difficult shape. In the background you can see one of the tankless water heaters we have.
