We are expecting to have Danny and Danny in the greenhouse above the pool insulating the roof and walls. Once that was done the greenhouse would instantly become unbearable on any clear sunny day (until the roof is insulated, there is a nice draw where the hot air goes out the top of the roof eve and cool air is drawn in from the bottom), so I decided it was mandatory to install the ventilation fans before they started. When we had them frame in the walls I told them to leave at least 24 inches for a set of fans, but I hadn't actually read what the dimensions of the fans, just went by the reported size. Well (you knew there was a 'well' coming by now, eh?), it turns out the 24 inch fan was actually 27 inches and so on up the scale, so there wasn't enough room to install them where I wanted. I wound up spending an entire Satureday trapped in analysis paralysis trying to decide what to do. I could squeeze three of the four fans (two 24 inch, one each 30 and 36, combined they are supposed to exhaust 33,000 cubic feet per minute, the calculated volume to keep the air temp inside close to outside air) in with the current framing, but that would push the fourth into the area I was planning for a door. Or I could cut down all the existing framing to make room. Hours I sat on the ladder trying to make up my mind. I am sure my lovely wife thought I was an idiot, but I just couldn't make the decision. Sunday morning I had decided, it was worth a day to have it look 'right', and even after lowering the framing I would still have enough head room to get through the doorway as I desired. It wound up taking two days to reframe (I had to make sure it was strong enough to hold up the 100's of lbs of vibrating fans), but I got it done fairly easily once I broke my stasis. Below is the actual installation with Mitch and Neil helping. It turns out I built the holes for an almost exact fit and needed a rubber mallet to get them all the way in, but it was mostly painless.
Naturally, we segued into a wide variety of topics once the brute force was done, Eliz decided she needed a pic of that:
